All podiums in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be made from recycled household plastic products, the first in the history of the Olympics!
45,000 kilograms and 1.5 million plastic items were collected all over Japan. The Olympic Organizing Committee has mobilized more than 2,000 branded supermarket chains across the country to collect waste plastic products from residents, accomplishing this goal at an astonishing speed.
Each component of the prize platform is made of renewable plastic weighing approximately 1.5 kilograms. As a total of 878 award ceremonies will be held during the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, 98 podiums were produced and a total of 24.5 tons of renewable plastics were recovered, which is equivalent to 400,000 plastic bottles of laundry detergent.
It is understood that 98 podiums are all manufactured using 3D printing technology.
